Wondering what info we collect and why?
Here’s the answers to all those privacy questions you never knew you had! If you have any more queries, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Be forewarned; I am just one mama clicking away on her laptop at home. I know lots about homeschooling, and a fair bit about writing, but very little about the intricacies of how the internet works. The info I collect on this site happens automatically because of the tools I use (namely wordpress.org, Mailerlite, Google Analytics and various plugins, all of which claim to be GDPR compliant themselves).
I don’t use these tools to collect and sell your data or to use it for any other nefarious purpose. I wouldn’t know how even if I wanted to. Instead, I use the information to understand how you use this website so that I can continue to provide you with the info that you find interesting and helpful, to interact with you via comments, and to communicate with you via my email list.
- What personally identifiable information This Whole Home collects from you through the Sites, how it is used and with whom it may be shared.
- What choices are available to you regarding the use of your data.
Here we go!
This Whole Home is an Australian home education blog run by me, Kirstee Raki. You can read more about me here. This blog is aimed at home educating parents, or parents considering home education for their child/ren. It is particularly suitable for those who are based in Australia and New Zealand, or those in the USA or Canada.
Our website address is: http://thiswholehome.com and our best contact email is email@example.com
When you use this website we collect the following data:
I hate spam and I’m sure you do too! That’s why you are asked for certain information when you want to leave a comment on this site. When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. Comments may be run through a third party SPAM filter.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Cookies are also used to remember you so that you aren’t shown the same pop-ups repeatedly when visiting this site, and to collect data as part of Google Analytics.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
Not to be stalkerish, but we do collect and analyse information about the way you use this site. This is done using Google Analytics.
Google Analytics allows me to see things like how many people are visiting this site, what pages people are visiting, how long they read for, which page on this site they go to next, etc. Google Analytics collects information from you including your internet protocol ( IP ) addresses, type of browser, Internet Service Provider ( ISP ), date/time stamp, referring/exit pages, and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, track user’s movement around the site, and gather demographic information.
This Whole Home uses Googe AdSense to provide ads on this website. Third-party ad servers or ad networks use technology to display the advertisements and links that appear on www.thiswholehome.com and sent directly to your browsers. They automatically receive your IP address when this occurs.
Again, if you wish to disable cookies, you may do so through your individual browser options. More detailed information about cookie management with specific web browsers can be found at the browsers’ respective websites.
To keep up with the information and services I provide at This Whole Home, I offer the opportunity for you to sign up for my email newsletter. Should you choose to subscribe, this will require you to provide personally identifiable information, specifically your first name and email address.
This information is stored securely using MailerLite who are themselves GDPR compliant. When I send you an email, MailerLite automatically adds tracking things to links so if you click on a link I can see that. If you open an email I can see that too. MailerLite may also allow me to see which country you have signed up from, and also what type of device you open emails with.
I aim to send emails weekly but I confess, I’m not always great at that. Sometimes it may be a few weeks before you hear from me. On other occasions I might send you an extra email because I just can’t wait to share something with you. This is pretty rare and I won’t send you more than 3 emails a week, max.
This does vary when you initially sign up. Depending on which opt-in offer you sign up to you may receive more or fewer emails initially while I provide you with the support I think will be helpful in using your free download.
You can unsubscribe to our emails at any time by using the unsubscribe button at the bottom of the emails or by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
You also have the right to ask to be forgotten (in the official GDPR legalese sense). You can do this by sending and email to email@example.com
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
Data collected using Google Analytics is kept for 36 months before being automatically deleted. This allows www.thiswholehome.com to track trends over time.
Data collected when you sign up to our newsletter service is also kept indefinitely unless you ask to be forgotten.
What rights you have over your data
Firstly, please know that we will never transfer your data unless we are under legal obligation to do so. We don’t share it, sell it or do anything iffy with it.
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us.
You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Simply send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org clearly stating your requirements and this will be done within 30 days. This time period allows me to time to see your email and to seek technical assistance if necessary to carry out your request. Remember, I’m just one mama at home trying to offer you a service for free.
I have made this information as clear as I could and to the best of my knowledge it is correct. Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy your experience here at This Whole Home
